Front Cover Photo

Front Cover
This is the image i used for my front cover. I think this is a great show and i really like the angle, the lead singer at the front and rest behind in a triangle shape. I like all of their outfits they are wearing as i think they give signs of the 'indie' look. The lead singers jacket works very well as it draws peoples attention in to look at the page. Im glad i went for a white background because it does not make the picture look clumsy and it has left room for me to add different sub headings without it ruining the picture. I have also left room at the top of the shot for the name of the music magazine which is 'Indie-pendant'.

Contents Page Photo

I decided to use this as my contents page photo as i think its a nice, clear shot and has room on the left hand side for all of my pages. It keeps the theme of 'rock and roll' by showing the guitar being used on stage. I like the lighting angles that are in the shot and the colours are also not over powering. I think this shot will work very well on my contents page

Feature Article Pictures

Feature Article
I used these images for my feature article as it shows and completes the whole aspects of the bands image. It shows them in the studio, hard at work writting the songs and sharing ideas about the lyrics, shows the lead singer passionatley on stage singing and then it shows the customised guitar that has been put on the floor. I think all of these images work really well together.

Mock up front cover

This is the draw mock up of my front cover. As you can see, i want the shot to feature my five protagonist out of the band but he lead singer to be at the front in the main focus and the rest to stand behind him, sort of like a triangle shape. The title of the magazine is in very bold letters at the top of the page and i think will stand out to people glancing at it. The name of the band 'Torrents' is featured right across the middle of the page so that fans can easy spot that this band are featured in the magazine. Other bands in the 'indie/alternative' genre that are featured in the maagazine are shown at the bottom, so that possible fans of the bands will see this.

Mock up contents page

This is my mock up contents page. I have kept it quite plain with only one of my five protagonists featured on it. The list of pages to the left look very clear and easy to read which i feel is the main purpose of contents pages. I have used a guitar as a prop to highlight the 'rock and roll' image and show that it is still being featured through-out my magazine. One mistake i have made i think is that it is a little plain and i could add more text to make it more eye catching

Fonts

Planning Background
After seeing this image of Dirty Pretty Things, which are a band in same genre as my own, I think that a 'clear' background is a very good idea for my front cover shot. I think this as it helps you to focus on the features band and also ensures the shot if not over-powering at first glance. It helps the shot be direct between reader and the band. As I will be using a blank canvas for my cover shot, I may experiment with different backgrounds for the other shots of the band.
Fonts
This is one font that i was really attracted too when researching fonts. It is nice and bold so clear to catch
peoples eye at a slight glance but at the same time is quite messy and looks like it is out of a newspaper
cutting. I like how all of the letters are different size and i think it could possible represent my genre

I like this font and think it could be appropriate for my music magazine font, as it is easy to read but also i think has the conatations of the 'indie/alternative' font. The only thing that might be wrong with using this font is that it isnt eye-catching when you slightly glance at it

This is the first font that caught my eye when researching fonts for my music magazine name. I liked this one as i think it represents my 'indie/alternative' genre as it is quite a scribbled and messy font but at the same time you can read what it says. I like how each letter seems to be in its old box, like a news paper cutting.

Location of Props

The location in which my shots will be taken will play a big part in the message they get across. I will be shooting in a few different locations for my shots that will appear over the front cover, contents and feature article.
Front cover: a plain background as there are 5 people involved in shot, so do not want the shot to be over-complex, probably a white background.
Contents page: I think i am going to take the shot of the band playing live, so will be at a gig or festival.
Feature article: May take a shot of them writing songs in a studio, one stage preforming and maybe one shot of the band posing for the photo.

Costume and Props list

Costumes and props are things that need to be carefully thought about when shooting photos for a specific genre of a music magazine. I have some ideas on what costumes/props i will be using for my shots on my front cover, contents and feature article. I have researched into this to see which 'look' represents the genre and artists the best.
Front Cover:
Leather Jackets, main protagonist wear a striking jacket, plain skinny jeans, plain tshirts. I don't think i am going to use any props for this shot.
Contents: Plain jeans and a fitted tshirt, maybe a guitar for a prop
Feature Article: Leather jacket, fitted t-shirt, black jeans, Blue jeans. Guitar and microphone maybe being used as props.

These are just some of the ideas i have for my shots, and when i actually come to taking my photos they may alter
slightly if i find that the costumes/props dont work very well.

Music Videos

This music video is 'The View- 5 Rebeccas' and it shows the tour of the band The View. I think this is a great music video to gain inspiration and ideas from for my music video as it shows the whole lifestyle of bands in the 'Indie/Alternative' genre. It shows the kinds of festivals they play, backstage footage of how they act and also the way in which they dress. A good thing i can gain from watching this video is it shows the kind of audience that support the band and watch them, this is great when deciding my target audience. This music video really gives you an insight into bands life styles off stage and this can help me when i talk about them in my magazine and article. It also really shows off their bad boy images which is a key esential in this specific genre. This video also shows the dedication to music when the band are playing and shows the 'rock and roll' image of the band, showing their guitars and jumping around on stage.

This video is 'The Paddingtons- stand down' showing the band on stage and also off stage. I have chosen this video as i really think it catches the whole lifestyle of a typical British indie band. The music video shows the band also backstage which really gives us in a sinsight into what bands are like behind closed doors. In this musc video, it shows the typical clothes and behaviour of the band, this is important for my research as this band are similar to the one featured in my magazine. I can style the featured band by getting inspiration from The Paddingtons styles. This video will also inspire my image of the band such as the way they should pose and the expressions they should portray. One feature of this video that can inpsire my magazine is the whole 'rock and roll' life the band seem to live. My music magazine is based around the whole British 'rock and roll' culture that is seen is the 'indie/alternative' genre.
